Last night, Microsoft has rolled out new firmware for Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 tablets.
According to Microsoft, the firmware will show up in Windows Update as “System Firmware Update – 5/19/2015” and will offer the following updates for your Surface tablet…
- Surface Pro 3 UEFI update (v3.11.850.0) includes changes needed for compatibility with the updated graphics driver.
- HD Graphics Family driver update (v10.18.14.4170) improves graphics performance and includes better Miracast (wireless display) support.
- Display Audio driver update (v6.16.00.3172) improves audio experience and supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver.
As usual with Microsoft updates, they will roll them out in stages so you may not see the updates show up on your Surface for a day or two.
So now when you get that (sometimes annoying) “there are updates to install” message on your Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3, you’ll know why.
To get around this problem, you can manually install the Firmware by downloading it from the MICROSOFT DOWNLOAD CENTER.
You will need to download the SurfacePro3_150519.msi file then run it and restart your Surface. At that point the firmware installation screen should happen automatically. Just make sure your Surface is connected to power while you are doing the update.
